2205 is a duplex stainless steel with nearly equal proportions of austenite and ferrite when properly heat treated. This microstructure makes it much more resistant to stress corrosion cracking than stainless steel 304 and 316L. 2205's higher chromium, molybdenum and nitrogen contents give it significantly improved pitting and crevice corrosion resistance in the presence of chlorides. Its yield strength is about twice that of austenitic stainless steels. It is highly suitable forApplications in environments containing chlorides and hydrogen sulfide such as marine applications and oil and gas production.
